The Lakewood Park Playground Renovation project, commissioned by the City of Houston, was undertaken to modernize and enhance the park’s existing playground and surrounding landscape. The project aimed to create a safer, more engaging space for the community by removing outdated structures, improving accessibility, and ensuring the area meets ADA standards. The playground equipment was by Kraftsman Commercial Playgrounds & Water Parks. This project had a specialized focus on playground and earthwork components.
Earthwork:
• Demolished 764 sq. ft. of sidewalk and 29 linear feet of
retaining wall.
• Excavated soil in the playground and backfilled pool areas (5,904 sq. ft. total).
• Installed a new 2,244 sq. ft. sidewalk, graded and backfilled using on-site materials.
Playground:
• Constructed 209 linear feet of curb and 16 linear feet of
retaining wall.
• Installed an ADA-compliant ramp (75 sq. ft.).
• Applied Kiddie Cushion Mulch (1-foot depth) over
gravel and geotextile fabric for safety.
